2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Horseshoe Bend finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Horseshoe Bend finished seventh in Class 2A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. No team at Horseshoe Bend ever lost more games in a season than the ten they lost last year. The last time they lost as many was back in 2003. The Generals last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Horseshoe Bend was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Generals want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.1 points a game. Horseshoe Bend struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.0 points a game. The Generals would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Horseshoe Bend has gone a combined 20-42. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 24 seasons, Horseshoe Bend has not won much with a record of 82-167. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 2A and 328th in the AHSAA. The Generals are led by head coach Jason Franklin who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 28-54 over the past eight seasons at Horseshoe Bend. Under his direction the Generals have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Franklin. Coach Franklin's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 28-54 (34.1%). The Horseshoe Bend Generals will play in Class 2A region five during the 2016 season. The Generals enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Generals will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Horseshoe Bend will be to simply win some games. Running back Drew Hill returns for his senior season after rushing for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior last season. The Generals open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Donoho on Thursday, August 25 at Battle Stadium. Last year the Donoho Falcons finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in sixth place in Class 1A region five. The Falcons ended last season on a positive note with a win over Coosa Christian by a score of 28-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Horseshoe Bend and Donoho have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Generals have a 2-2-0 record against the Falcons. They last met in with College prospects include: Drew Hill (, 0) running back, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
